Writers' Open Mic Night: Poetry and Prose at the Library

Do you write and want to read your work before a supportive audience? Step out of the coffee shop or your study and join us Wednesday, July 8 from 7 to 9 pm for Writers' Open Mic Night where writers of any age and working in all forms and genres are invited to share their work.

If you would like to read your work at this community literary evening, please email the moderator, Bob Boone, in advance at ycagsc@aol.com so he can coordinate the evening's roster. Everyone is welcome to participate by reading or by being an appreciative audience for the many talented writers in our community! 

APPY HOUR July 7

Join us on July 7 from 7:30 - 9pm for Appy Hour, our tech time devoted to all things Apple.

We'll discuss June's World Wide Developer Conference, where some of Apple's biggest products are rolled out, and take a look back at the Apple Watch's first few months.

As always, we'll cover some power tips for getting the most from your devices, share favorite apps and open the floor to troubleshooting. Apply Hour is an open-ended discussion group, so we're sure to cover whatever is on your mind. Appy Hour is open to people of all abilities and is led by librarian Mike Gershbein. Come join us!

The library will be closed Saturday, July 4 and due to Summer Hours, on Sunday, July 5, as well.

Robert Kurson July 1

Please join us Wednesday, July 1 at 7 p.m. to hear Chicago author Robert Kurson talk about his writing and his new book, Pirate Hunters: Treasure, Obsession and the Search for a Legendary Pirate Ship.

Kurson is also the author of Shadow Divers: the True Adventure of Two American Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the Last Mysteries of World War II and Crashing Through: the Extraordinary True Story of the Man who Dared to See. 

He began his writing career at the Chicago Sun-Times and worked for Chicago magazine and Esquire, where he won a National Magazine Award. Kurson's stories have appeared in Rolling Stone and The New York Times Magazine. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he also worked as an attorney.

The New York Times wrote of Shadow Divers, "You know a book has you when you avoid looking at its photo display or final pages for fear of spoiling its surprises. Robert Kurson has written a genre-mixing sprint of a narrative, an adventure story that is also a genuine historical mystery."
