Banned Books Week Sept. 26 - Oct 3

Come to the library this week to see our display of books that have been banned or challenged in recent years, pick up a bookmark and enter a drawing to win a "I Read Banned Books" book bag. Since 1982, Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read is observed during the last week of September every year. This annual American Library Association event reminds Americans not to take their precious democratic freedom for granted. Fines for Food Begins

As a variation on our Food for Fines program, we will donate all fines paid through October 4th to local food pantries. A monetary donation to a food pantry, as opposed to donations of food, will allow them to more efficiently address their needs. Fines for Food will not apply for payment of lost items. Pay your fines during the next two weeks and know that your money is doing some extra good!

Library Closed Friday

On Friday September 25th, the library will be closed for a staff training day. We will reopen on Saturday. We apologize for any inconvenience and remind you that you can always renew books, place holds and more at our website.

Centennial Program: Glencoe Then and Now

Return to when streets were unpaved, chief activities were shopping at the local butchers or bakers, and children played on wooden sidewalks, as Ellen Paseltiner and Scott Javore visit the library on Sunday the 20th at 2:00 and present this Glencoe Historical Society program on our village's fascinating past. Originally created as part of Glencoe's second grade curriculum, Glencoe Then and Now has been reinterpreted for adults and is being presented as part of our Centennial celebration. From Page to Stage Kickoff Event

Join us on September 15th when From Page to Stage kicks off with director Michael Halberstam and actors Timothy Edward Kane and Sean Fortunato discussing how Tom Stoppard uses William Shakespeare’s Hamlet to create the world of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Stay after the discussion to enjoy coffee and desserts to celebrate our annual literary event! This event will take place at the Woman's Library Club, 325 Tudor Court and admission is free. More information on all of the upcoming From Page to Stage events can be found at the Writers' Theatre website. Other From Page to Stage programs related to this play will be presented at neighboring public libraries through October 20.
